Happy New Year!

Just realised it’s been over a month since my last blog. What a slacker I am! It’s been a fairly busy month, hence why I’ve not stopped to give the blog a thought til now.

December started with a great ‘secret’ gig for the Jigantics in Gloucester at the Cross Keys Inn. Not too much of a secret as it turned out because the place was packed. Folklaw played a great opening set for us and we played an hour-long set of songs for an appreciative audience. In the new year we will be working on more material and fine tuning the set ready for a few more low-key gigs prior to the festival season.

The snow here forced us to cancel the Sons of the Delta pre-Christmas gig at the Lichfield Vaults in Hereford. A real shame as it’s a great little venue with fantastic food, wonderful beer and a warm audience, plus I hate having to cancel gigs. I’m proud to say that I can’t remember the last time I had to pull out of a gig. I’m a great believer in the ‘show must go on’ attitude but sometimes you just have to admit defeat. We plan to reschedule the Hereford gig for early in the new year. The two local open mics before Christmas went very well, despite the numbers being down on last year (snow again) and gave me a good live music top-up before the Christmas break which I spent with family. Too much to eat and drink as always, but a great time to relax and recharge my batteries before the busy administration month that is January.

So what’s in store for 2011? A week in Clarksdale, Mississippi, with the Sons of the Delta Band performing at the Juke Joint Festival, more dates in Spain, a debut album and lots of festival gigs with the Jigantics, a new album with Sons of the Delta, more solo recording, lots of songwriting, open mic hosting and the over-due debut of Southern Collision. It’s going to be a busy year and that’s the way (aha, aha) I like it ;) Oh, and also I’ll be learning to play the wonderful Mahalo electric uke which I was given for Christmas.

Happy New Year everyone! Thanks for your support in 2010 and I hope 2011 is a happy, healthy and prosperous year for you all.
